Pledge Educations Programs

December 14, 2010

Welcome back to Terminology Tuesday! Each Tuesday we will blog about some commonly misused terms within the Fraternity. It’s our hope that you take some time to read, laugh, smile, and then use the information to alter your word choices, and the choices of those around you.

Spring pledge education programs are due tomorrow, so it’s the perfect time to make sure everyone knows exactly what this is! Each chapter is required to conduct a pledge education program for all prospective members. Such prospects must have been pledged according to Fraternity Bylaws, Ritual and Policies, to further acquaint them with Fraternity objectives, history and the business operations of the chapter and the Fraternity.

Some common problems with pledge programs and things to avoid include:

  • There needs to be a breakdown of what questions the pledges will be assigned and tested on at each meeting. (Ex:  Week 1, assign questions 1-5).
  • Pledges can only be asked each question twice- but only once on a quiz and once on the final exam (which is cumulative).
  • Chapters may only choose 3 local requirements.  Any additional requirements or requirements that are not listed in the Standard Pledge Program will not be allowed.
  • Big Brothers must be matched to pledges within the first 10 days of pledging.
