It’s time to start recruiting!

January 4, 2011

Welcome back to Terminology Tuesday! Each Tuesday we will blog about some commonly misused terms within the Fraternity. It’s our hope that you take some time to read, laugh, smile, and then use the information to alter your word choices, and the choices of those around you.

Recruiting is the process used by Delta Sigma Pi to promote membership and invite business and economics students to scheduled meetings and activities. Current members are able to get to know the prospective members so that they may be considered for membership in Deltasig. Recruitment includes information sessions, professional events, community service and social gatherings. Be creative, hold more than one information session and get to know those potential brothers!

Rush is a series of open forum events conducted simultaneously by competing organizations where interested students go from one to the next in order to determine which group they want to pursue. This only exists when Deltasig is not the only business fraternity on campus and competing fraternities participate in a “Business Rush.”

Also remember, the abbreviation for Delta Sigma Pi is Deltasig (not Delta Sig). We don’t want to confuse anyone! Good luck recruiting new brothers! For all your recruiting needs (posters, brochures, etc.), check out the Deltasig shop.

What are some themes your chapter uses during recruitment?

Question – When using the term Deltasig, it was always my impression that it was used when referring to brothers and not the fraternity as a whole. So for example, I’d say “I’m a Deltasig,” or “We’re Deltasigs,” but I wouldn’t say, “Join Deltasig.” Is that not a correct interpretation? I guess I’ve never used it when referring to the organization itself, but use it frequently when referring to members of the organization.

Good question! You can use the term both ways, which means it is acceptable to refer to the organization itself as “Deltasig.”
