A Little Friendly Career Advice…

March 9, 2011

From GEICO’s Senior Management Team:

Whether you have just entered the workforce and are ready to launch your career or you’re an established professional with the desire to find even more success, everyone can benefit from good advice. Here are a few tips from successful officers at GEICO on how to build a successful career.

  • Life’s a balance beam. It’s important to find a balance between your work life and your personal life. Trying to train for a marathon AND win that big account?  Keep the communication doors open at work and at home; that way both parties know what your goals are (in and outside of the work place) and they can help you reach them.
  • Have faith…in yourself. Have confidence and make sure your voice is heard. Speak clearly and with confidence so that you and your brilliant ideas get noticed – and implemented.
  • Do your best. Sounds simple enough, but it’s not always executed. Why wouldn’t you want to be the best at what you do? It’s fulfilling and gratifying.
  • Embrace change; it can be a good thing. If you want to initiate change, go for it! But make sure you can make a legitimate business case for it. How will your desired change help the company reach its goals? Save money? Increase productivity? If you can answer these questions clearly and persuasively, then your ideas will be heard.
  • Plan ahead. Sometimes you just have to expect the unexpected, but for everything else, have a realistic plan. It will make your life and the lives of those around you much easier and much less stressful.

So there you have it! A few sound pieces of advice from a few GEICO officers who have found success both inside and outside of the work force.
