Looking for a way to fund your GCC trip?

May 17, 2011

Welcome back to Terminology Tuesday! Each Tuesday we will blog about some commonly misused terms within the Fraternity. It’s our hope that you take some time to read, laugh, smile, and then use the information to alter your word choices, and the choices of those around you.

Do you know about the Congress Reserve Travel Fund for collegiate chapters? Each collegiate chapter is invoiced $200 annually ($100 each spring and fall) to establish a Congress reserve fund for their chapter—meaning each chapter will accumulate up to $400 to be used toward GCC costs during each biennium.

Use of these funds is up to each chapter, as long as they are used for Congress expenses (registration, hotel, travel, etc. for the delegate, alternates and/or other chapter members).

The funds will be distributed as follows:

1. Chapter must have a voting-eligible delegate seated at Grand Chapter Congress to receive disbursement. Chapters on probation, which otherwise meet all criteria for a voting delegate, are exempted from this provision and will receive disbursement if representatives fulfill all other related requirements.

2. Money from the fund will not be distributed before Grand Chapter Congress.

3. Checks will be distributed following the close of the Congress legislative sessions (usually Saturday morning). Any checks remaining following the Congress will be mailed directly to the chapters at the start of the academic year.

4. Checks will be made payable to the chapter.

Any eligible collegiate chapter not having a registered delegate at Congress will forfeit $400 from this fund. Chapters on probation will forfeit the $400 only if no chapter representative attends Congress.  Please refer to the policy and procedures manual, Grand Chapter and Grand Chapter Congress, Policy 8 for full details.

Another option for additional funding include your university Student Activities Office. Register for Congress today (registration fee increases June1!). And don’t forget to reserve your hotel room before June 30 through Marriott Reservations.
