Operation Gratitude

By: Kim Ward, North Central Provincial Community Service Chair

Delta Sigma Pi prides itself on what our brothers do to benefit their communities, and there are many different ways that chapters can participate in community service events, both locally and nationally.

LEAD Schools and Provincial Conferences provide the perfect opportunity for chapters to participate in a community service event during the event and earn CMP credit at the same time. During the Omaha LEAD School in October, the North Central Province hosted an event to benefit Operation Gratitude. Attendees were encouraged to write and decorate holiday letters and cards for U.S. Troops serving overseas.

More than 130 cards and letters were written and decorated during the Omaha LEAD School and these cards will be included in care packages this holiday season.

Finding an outlet to use to deliver the letters was no difficult feat, as there are many organizations offering the opportunity to support our troops. The North Central Province chose Operation Gratitude because they included the letters with care packages sent to the soldiers. Annually, Operation Gratitude sends over 100,000 care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters. Things we may take for granted at home, such as cookies, special snacks, movies and magazines, are what the soldiers want when overseas. The main mission of Operation Gratitude is to lift the morale and bring smiles to the service men & women who are away from their families and friends. Operation Gratitude doesn’t only focus on deployed troops, but also sends letters to veterans so they know that they are not forgotten.

With the holiday season in full swing, remember that a simple card or package from home means the world to the men and women of our armed forces. Learn more about how you can volunteer and donate to this organization.

And be sure to check out registration details for service events taking place at the upcoming spring LEAD Provincial Conferences.

THANK YOU for your kind and thoughtful support! We are very grateful! And the troops who receive your cards and letters will be grateful, too!
