Dues vs. Fees

Welcome back to Terminology Tuesday! Each Tuesday we will blog about some commonly misunderstood terms within the Fraternity. It’s our hope that you will take the time to read and then share this information with others.

Dues are monies charged to members to support various programs of the organization while fees are monies charged to non-members (pledges) or monies charged for a service.  Examples of both dues and fees with current amounts can be found below. 

Dues

  • Collegiate chapter dues- $80.00 annually ($40.00 per fall and spring term)
  • Alumni dues- $0 (alumni members do not currently pay dues).

 

Fees

  • Initiation fees for Faculty and Honorary initiates- $30.00.
  • Initiation fees for collegiate initiates- $70.00.
  • Pledge pins- $8.50 each.
  • Pledge manuals- $6.00 each.
  • Badge lease- $50.00 each.
  • Alumni chapter franchise- $25 annually.
  • Current Charter- $1500.
  • Current Insurance Premium for collegiate chapters- vary with the number of members in a chapter.
  • Current Insurance Premium for alumni chapters- $50 except for approved foreign alumni chapters which must purchase their own insurance.
  • Late Initiation Fee- $25 per individual initiate if a chapter’s initiation fees are not paid within 21 days after initiation. 
  • Regalia Fees- Collegiate chapters are charged $100 annually.
