Pledge Education Programs- due June 1

May 15, 2012

Welcome back to Terminology Tuesday! Each Tuesday we will blog about some commonly misunderstood terms within the Fraternity. It’s our hope that you will take the time to read and then share this information with others.

Fall pledge education programs are due by June 1st, so it’s the perfect time to make sure everyone knows exactly what this is! Each chapter is required to conduct a pledge education program for all prospective members. Such prospects must have been pledged according to Fraternity Bylaws, Ritual and Policies, to further acquaint them with Fraternity objectives, history and the business operations of the chapter and the Fraternity.

Some critical items to consider when preparing for the program include:

  • There needs to be a breakdown of what questions the pledges will be assigned and tested on at each meeting. (Ex:  Week 1, assign questions 1-5).
  • Pledges can only be asked each question twice—but only once on a quiz and once on the final exam (which is cumulative).
  • Make sure all questions and answers (1-34) are up to date by using the Resources page at
  • Chapters may choose up to 3 local requirements.  Any additional requirements are not listed in the Standard Pledge Program will not be allowed.
  • Ensure that descriptions are completed for the necessary local requirements.
  • Big Brothers must be matched to pledges within the first 10 days of pledging.
  • Utilize the agenda template found in National Policies to help with planning each meeting.
  • Don’t forget to submit the regalia reservation after completing the Pledge Education Program. These are on a first-come, first-served basis so get your program submitted early!
  • Review the VP-Pledge Education Officer Packet for helpful hints and tools for a successful pledge class.
