Who will be the 2013 NHI?

June 26, 2012

Welcome back to Terminology Tuesday! Each Tuesday we will blog about some commonly misunderstood terms within the Fraternity. It’s our hope that you will take the time to read and then share this information with others.

Delta Sigma Pi selects one person biennially as its National Honorary Initiate to be initiated at Grand Chapter Congress. This honor recognizes an individual who has served as a role model of professionalism, leadership, and success through ethical business practice and service to others.  The National Honorary Initiate should not be confused with honorary members—persons who have made a significant contribution to business, government, education or the Fraternity and whose professional or personal achievements warrant the bestowing upon them of honorary membership in Delta Sigma Pi and are not students or members of the faculty in the university where a chapter is situated.

Any member of Delta Sigma Pi can nominate someone to be the National Honorary Initiate.

The honorary initiate should demonstrate:

  • Professionalism
  • Success / Public Awareness
  • Public Speaking
  • Desire to Serve
  • Upstanding Citizen
  • Leadership
  • Social Involvement

This person should be willing to:

  • Foster the study of business in universities by speaking at an occasional individual chapter meetings or addressing a Fraternity conference.
  • Encourage scholarship, social activity, and the association of students by leading by example and making financial contributions to scholarship funds, being an active promoter of the Leadership Foundation and regularly and enthusiastically attend Delta Sigma Pi conferences and events.
  • Promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce by establishing relationships between the brothers and their organizations through corporate sponsorship, event support, and other financial, educational, or service activities.
  • Further a higher standard of ethics and civic responsibility by promoting ethical business practices and service to the community.

Do you know someone who would make a great brother and join the ranks of these great brothers?  Nominate him/her to be initiated as our next National Honorary Initiate in Seattle!  Nominations must be submitted via no later than June 30 of each even numbered year.
